Mental Health First Aid - Standard Module


Mental Health First Aid is the help provided to a person who is experiencing the onset of a mental health disorder, a deterioration of a mental health disorder, or who is in a phase of mental health crisis. First aid is given until professional help can be provided, or until the crisis is resolved. They are the mental health equivalent of first aid actions that provide physical help to a person in difficulty.


EDUCATIONAL GOALS

• Acquire basic knowledge regarding mental health disorders

• Better understand the different types of mental health crises

• Develop relational skills: listen without judgment, reassure and provide appropriate information

• Better deal with aggressive behavior

A participatory educational approach for:

• Gain confidence in interacting with people experiencing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis

• Review your representations regarding mental health

• Strengthen the support provided to people in crisis or experiencing a mental health problem
